Abstract
This systematic review seeks to explore the current understanding of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in the context of business information systems, focusing on its adoption, drivers, applications, impact, and challenges. To achieve this, a comprehensive literature search was conducted using Google Scholar with search terms aligned with the study objectives. Relevant full-text papers were identified and screened according to exclusion criteria, with the process documented in a PRISMA flow diagram. The review examined selected papers from 2022 to 2024, highlighting various aspects of GAI, with a particular emphasis on ChatGPT, which was prominently discussed in most studies. The findings indicate that GAI applications, such as ChatGPT, have significant potential to enhance business functions and deliver substantial benefits across various sectors. However, challenges remain critical considerations. The acceptance of GAI outputs should be contingent upon ensuring compliance with ethical principles, underscoring the need for a balanced approach to leveraging these technologies.
